Sultan Mohammad Miazoi
While specialising on the art of the Afghan rabāb,
Sultan Mohammad Miazoi also is a skilful tabla and
harmonia player, and a trained singer.
Having left his war-torn country in 1989 Sultan
continues to pursue his love and passion for music
by repairing and crafting Afghan traditional musical
instruments, organising live performances, and
teaching young Afghans in Melbourne to play
traditional Afghan instruments, including his
beloved rabāb.
Sultan is a well-established and recognised musician
not only among the Afghan community of Melbourne but
also within the broader Australian community. He has
performed on many occasions, including for a
documentary film, The President Versus David Hicks.
In 2002 he released his solo rabāb CD Rohnawaz,
which is dedicated to his mentor Ustad Rohnawaz.
